How To Properly Change The Filter In A Water Pitcher

Not all water pitchers are designed in a similar manner. However, changing out their filters generally involves the same steps. With that said, if you want to learn how to properly change the filter in a water pitcher, then follow these easy steps:

  1. Lift The Lid – The first thing you want to do is lift the lid of your pitcher. After you do this, remove the filter from the reservoir. Your pitcher may or may not have the lid, but regardless if it does or not, you’ll want to remove the old filter. This is very easy to do and doesn’t require much effort, but be careful when removing the filter.
  2. Clean The Replacement – After you have lifted the lid and removed the old filter, you’ll want to clean the replacement filter. All you do is place the filter in cold water and let it sit there for 20-25 minutes. Once that amount of time has gone by, you’ll want to run the cold water and rinse the filter off. Rinse it off under the cold tap for up to 10-20 seconds.
  3. Lining The Notch – Next, it’s time to look inside the pitcher to find out what side the groove is on, and then you’ll want to line that side. Then you’ll want to take the filter and firmly press down on it as you insert it into the pitcher. Generally speaking, it’s a good idea to discard the first 3-4 pitchers of water, but this is not a requirement. It’s just a recommendation.
  4. Last Step – Put the lid back where it was, and if there is an electronic indicator button on your pitcher, then make sure you press it. The button will likely be located right on the top of the pitcher, and after you press the button it should display four bars. Once those bars appear, you can stop pressing down on the button. Now you wait until those bars go away and then you can finally replace the filter.

Thing To Keep In Mind

As you can see, changing out a water pitcher’s filter is relatively easy, but there are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind. For starters, you should make sure you buy the right filters for your pitcher. All too often people make the mistake of buying the wrong type of filters and they try to force them into the pitcher. You don’t want to do this because you could end up breaking your pitcher.

It’s a good idea to change the filter regularly. Different water pitcher brands have different recommendations, but you should do it regularly. In general, the more you use the pitcher, the more frequently you should change the filter. Doing it once per two months should be good enough, but there different brands and filters that can be changed once in 7 months. Take that into consideration and follow manufacturer’s recommendations.

Shop around for filters because many places do sell them and there are various reasons why you should check out several places that sell replacement filters. You could end up saving a significant amount of money by comparing, but do make sure the place you buy from is reputable and known for their quality filters. The last thing you want is to buy replacement water filters that will not get the job done.

Remember, different water pitchers require different ways to change out their filters, but the above is the standard way to do it. When you buy a water pitcher, you’ll want to read the owner’s manual and learn how to change the filter. However, the above steps are applicable to most brands and models.
